working on now...
this is a pieces, i am starting the new year off with. i have been hanging on a sketch for some time and am finally bringing it to fruition. this will be 26x38 on some BFK $30 papers or something like that, so far it is just graphite, but i will be messing around with layers of color over top. need a meditative break from all my rushing around, so i have high hopes for this one (unless i screw it up or the cat shits on it). No time line set for completion just taking it easy. Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday week, thanks everyone for stayin round.

#12 OF 13
Here is one of the last illustrations for the artshow. i will be showing this piece on its path to being finished. with a final shot of it in the frame.
here is a scan from a small thumbnail that will be blown up to 8x10 and revisited with darker lead. I usually start with thumbs about 1" wide and so on tall. this helps me insure that the space will be interested from a great distance, now for me to make it interesting closeup.
Here is the second step. i have redrawn this over a scaled back 10% print out of my original thumbnail at a size close to 8x10. this also allows me to crop my thumbnail appropriately with
illustrator as to the size i am framing.
graphite on hotpress board 9x13 initial scan, will be followed with a tweaked version with the reds applied.
graphite/ red graphite on hotpress board nearing the final stretch.
dye spray to age the image, unless i have the temptation to add anything else i will be posting an image of this in a frame soon

Honest Zine review
Wow, i just opened my email to find a link to a great review of my zine honest. Thanks so much Adam. For those of you that are zine readers, Adam is the curator of the zine 22 really great guy, great art reviews, and great art. 22 zine has a few issues up for sale on there site.
its a very superior art news source, his magazine to me is up among the main published magazine such as juxtapoz, hi fructose, and Dangerous Ink, But with out all the advertising.
22 zine site you can preview the magaZINEs and order straight from the site
heres a link to the review, thanks again!

2 MORE poop poops
I have 2 more to show from previous sketches a few posts back. my scanner is a little short and it has cut off a bit of the illustration on the top and bottom. i have tried my best of crop these as interesting as possible given the challenge. I did get a chance to come in and scan everything this weekend so I'm pretty excited to only have 2 finials to finish and 12 more frames to complete. then its off to putting these guys in a zine for the show. I talked to a friend today about ebay frames, woo, there are some really nice Victorian frames for super cheap. thanks for the info, i think i might shop around for frames next time before starting such a weirdly shaped format.
so wish me luck this weekend is frames weekend, if i have all my fingers Monday I'll post some pics!

Progress, beer and powertools....
Lilly with her halo of shame
most of the 13 pieces, still due 3, a cover design for the zine and stories to go along. wee the month has been going by fast.
bad evil jigsaw blade
progress to frames
Okay, well had a few crazy past weeks. Lilly my dog ate a nail in front of me we had to remove it surgically, now shes wearing a scar and a bad girl halo of loud annoying plastic. I have been trying to find a way that is cheap enough to do the framing of all the 13 pieces for the December art show that is quickly approaching. well i shopped around, had (framer) someone picked, then bam money to the dog doctor. So i can kind of thank Lilly in this ironic way, because i have actually come up with a plan to make pretty cool frames on the cheap. so i liberated my dog of a nail, she liberated me of my framing funds, as well as pushed me to create what i felt i couldn't previously (diy frames). so i guess double good comes of double bad. Here are a few picks that i have taken of my progress with the frames. the frames are around a 1.45 ft tall, with the window area to fit a 9x13 illustration. I think its time to stick in a movie and start concepting the final 3.

i think shes done, i want to get the last 4 to this stage then i will go back and adjust and tweak things to satisfaction. if i hadn't mentioned before, this entire series is graphite, with hues of red and orange ghostly present. its kind of a weird series for me as i have am used to using more color or at least a richer color scheme. but to go along with writings of weird and creepy story telling i felt this was a fun route for the illustrations to take. :D
I have already started on the girl with the bowl from the comp below, shes dipping a vessel into the open chest of a fallen man with pretty leafy veins lifted into the air. creepy side ;)

2 more concepts in the making
here are the 2 newest pieces i have been sketching with for the next few pages. I will still need to work on one more page, and a cover illo. these are in the working stage and detail has not been completely worked out. you may see some changes from here to the final. but i just wanted to share these before i get backed up with working on 4 at once. If you want to share i would love to have your feedback.
*** update, finished blue lining these girls, gravity pulled me toward the swinging twins, so i might have a nice little update monday. or soonerrrr. :D
as promised, here is one of the 13 finished pieces for the creep short stories zine that i am diligently working on. this is mostly graphite, blue line pencil, red pencil lead, orange/red blushed on pastels, and the super handy arousal wood stain spray. well thats the process so far, i still am debating to use more color via photoshop/illustrator. we will see, these little guys can take some time.

honest zine - 01 variant cover
I will shortly be re releasing the zine i had at my march artshow with a new block print pencil rubbing cover. all the internal content is the same on both editions, it was previously release in a edition of 33. i just wanted to offer it to friends that were not able to attend the show as well as new comers. I do not have an addition size set but am looking into that amount right now. each is signed, and hand rubbed cover so color, imperfections, and detail will be different among each copy. here is a sneak peak at the cover as well as the block i used.

progress pt2 of Final Chapter
okay here is the updated graphite in the works, also you can slightly see a the watercolor underlay, very light, didn't want to add to much color preceding the red that will go in next, well after the graphite is complete. Also you can see the final is larger then scanner window, resulting in a horribly cropped version of the comp in my previous post. i will post a full version of the piece correctly cropped on the final when finished.
news and progress on "final chapter"
So far i have been working on several pieces for a short story zine of weird, scary, and may hap dark humor. i am doing finished pieces of these works that will be shown at a later date. Each piece i have a preset size framing the piece at this stage i have thumbed scanned, redrawn, repeat till happy. this is the comp for the final, i have been dragging the final around with me for that past week or so. I will do a scan here shortly to show the process of the piece and get your thoughts. All of the pieces in this series are on cold press board, watercolor, graphite, then finished with red color pencil. this is the common identity for this series. as you can tell i love doing series pieces.
i first started the idea of the short stories zine after my last show, and decided to change it up for my enjoyment. i had previously been working on my robot series and came to a stand still with the story. I wanted to push forward on some of my other non robot ideas, instead of pushing out junk that i wouldn't be happy with.

new sketch blog
this is pretty exciting, i can post all my progress work on my finals now. so anyone that's paying attention stay connected, you should start seeing things go up pretty soon.
